Sign To Read project is a collaboration between a deaf team from Vietnam and Laos. Our deaf communities are facing the same challenge which is not having access to deaf-friendly reading sources. We are left behind in developing our literacy and knowledge. That is why we created the Sign To Read project. We want to develop bilingual storybooks in written and sign languages to support sign language exposure and literacy development for deaf people in Vietnam and Laos.

The team has successfully filmed 30 stories in Ho Chi Minh Sign Language, Hanoi Sign Language, and Lao Sign Language, with editing underway for 20 additional videos. This monumental task involved countless discussions and meetings with deaf teachers, experts, and native signers to ensure the storybooks’ quality and accessibility.

The impact of these efforts is already being felt. By providing training seminars, Sign to Read is not only creating storybooks but also building a network of deaf experts and raising awareness about the importance of accessible resources.
